On 13 and 14 October 2026, Defence iQ, in association with REPMUS 26, brought together four specialist maritime defense conferences in Tróia, Portugal, covering Maritime ISR, Seabed Security, Surface Warships and Uncrewed Naval Systems.
The NATO Maritime GEOMETOC Centre of Excellence participated in this important maritime gathering, contributing its expertise on the role of environmental information in support of maritime operations.
A key contribution was delivered by Captain Dr. Serdar Tombul, Head of the Concept Development and Experimentation Branch, who presented: “Rapid Environmental Assessment (REA): Support to Operations through the Employment of Maritime Unmanned Systems.” The presentation highlighted the role of REA in supporting maritime operations and the potential of unmanned systems to enhance the collection and exploitation of environmental information. It also provided an opportunity to share insights from the Centre’s work in the REA Focus Area during REPMUS 26.
The event provided a valuable forum for exchanging operational experience and engaging with military, government, industry and academic stakeholders on emerging technologies and future maritime capabilities.
