On 4 November 2025, four years after its accreditation as a NATO Centre of Excellence and its activation as a NATO Military Body, the Maritime GEOMETOC CoE officially inaugurated its new premises within the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute compound in Lisbon.
The ceremony was presided over by Rear Admiral João Marreiros, Chair of the COE Steering Committee, and attended by the Ambassador of Norway, several Defence Attachés from Allied nations, and former members of the Centre’s staff. Their presence underscored the strong spirit of cooperation and the enduring support shared among NATO Allies.
The new facilities provide significantly improved conditions for collaboration and innovation in geospatial, meteorological, and oceanographic support to the transformation of NATO’s maritime operations.
This milestone marks an important step in the continued development of the CoE and reaffirms its commitment to delivering excellence and expertise in support of the Alliance.
