REP-MUS 21 Robotic Experimentation Prototyping - Maritime Unmanned Systems Exercise

The MGEOMETOC COE participated in the REP-MUS 21 exercise which took place on the Portuguese southwest coast, near the Setubal peninsula, from September 13th to 24th, 2021.

The 2021 edition took place in the Portuguese Exercise Areas and at the Portuguese Navy's Operational Experimentation Centre (CEOM). Organised by the Portuguese Navy, the Faculty of Engineering of Porto University (FEUP), the NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) and the NATO Maritime Unmanned Systems Initiative (MUSI) the exercise had the participation of 17 Navies, 15 Research and Development companies, 1 University and 6 NATO entities Headquarters & Centres of Excellence (ACT, MARCOM, CJOS COE, CSW COE, MGEOMETOC COE, NMW COE).

The Robotic Experimentation Prototyping augmented by Maritime Unmanned Systems (REP-MUS) is an exercise, designed to enable, on an annual basis, large-scale experimentation, where Operational Communities work together with Academia and Industry to develop and test operational concepts and requirements, technological advances and improvements in sensors, C3 (Command, Control and Communications), tactics and procedures on the employment of MUS in maritime operations.

The MGEOMETOC COE plays in this event a leadership in the coordination of the Rapid Environmental Assessment (REA) Working Group through its interoperability level. The MGEOMETOC COE was responsible for coordinating the employment of all MUS conducting REA observations, evaluate maturity level, assess their accuracy, timeliness, consistency and relevance to support future NATO REA operations.

During the exercise MGEOMETOC COE took the opportunity to meet with Academia, Industry and NATO entities to consolidate existing collaboration and explore the interest of future partnerships and activities in Maritime GEOMETOC domain.​
